Local SEO for Calgary trades and service businesses

Local SEO from Matt Edward SEO works to get Calgary service businesses into Google’s Map Pack and local results for the searches their customers make. It covers Google Business Profile management, consistent listings, service-area pages and review monitoring, plus a monthly Maps scan, AI re-measure and progress report, run by Matt in Calgary, mostly for trades.

01Each monthEight pieces

What does local SEO for a Calgary business include?

Eight pieces of work each month:

Each monthWhat it means here
Google Business Profile4 posts drafted from your own photos and jobs, which I approve before they go up, plus photos, Q&A, and your services, categories and service area kept current
ListingsUp to 5 directory listings fixed or added, until your name, phone number and service area match everywhere
Pages1 service or service-area page, only where there’s something genuinely different to say
ReviewsNew reviews watched, with a reply drafted within 1 business day for you to approve
Maps scanWhere you show up in Google Maps across your service area: 25 points, 3 searches
AI re-measure180 answers from ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity, so you see your AI numbers too
Site fixesWorked down from your baseline list, when you give me editor access to your site
Progress reportWhat was done, what moved on Google, Maps and AI, and what’s next

AI agents I built do the measuring, research and first drafts. I make the calls, check every change before it goes live, and I’m the one you deal with.

Not included in any plan

  • Ads and social media
  • Site rebuilds, which I quote per project
  • Review-generation campaigns
  • Content beyond the monthly pages
  • Same-day support
  • Any guarantee of rankings, or of AI naming you

Areas: anywhere in Calgary’s four quadrants, and Airdrie, Cochrane, Chestermere and Okotoks. I come to you.

Billed monthly, with a minimum term of 3 months, then month to month.

02Worth it?Google’s own words

Is local SEO worth it for a Calgary service business?

It is if your customers look for your kind of work on Google, because local SEO works on two of the three things Google says its local results depend on.

Google says local results are “mainly based on relevance, distance, and popularity,” and calls the third factor prominence: how well known a business is (Google Business Profile Help, “Tips to improve your local ranking on Google”, checked ).

Distance depends on where the customer is searching from, and nobody can change that. Relevance and prominence are what local SEO works on: how well your profile and site match the search, and how well known your business is across the web.

It’s probably not worth it if nearly all your work comes from referrals and repeat customers, and new customers don’t look for you on Google.

03No storefrontService-area rules

Can a service-area business without a storefront rank in Calgary’s Map Pack?

Yes. Google’s own guidelines allow a Business Profile for a business that “travels to customers where they are,” with its address hidden and a service area set (Google, “Guidelines for representing your business on Google”, checked ).

The same guidelines say the service area shouldn’t reach much farther than about 2 hours’ drive from where the business is based, and that a virtual office isn’t eligible. I handle service-area businesses under those rules, and I don’t use virtual offices or borrowed addresses.

04ProfilesOngoing

Do you manage Google Business Profiles?

Yes. I manage Google Business Profiles for Calgary trades, keeping each one accurate, current and consistent with your website and your other listings.

That’s ongoing management, as part of local SEO.

05GuaranteesOne, on fixes

Do you guarantee a spot in the Map Pack?

No. Google says “There’s no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google” (Google Business Profile Help, checked ).

What I promise is the agreed work and a monthly record of what changed and what moved.

Every fix is checkable. If one I mark done doesn’t check out, I redo it free within 5 business days.
